Well, our corn maze adventure scheduled for today was a bust. Between the rain and myself and kiddo #2 being sick, we decided to skip it.
On our way driving home from groceries, though, kiddo #3 advised me that there was still a dinosaur living.
Apparently there’s a baby longneck living at the Suncor Energy Fluvarium. He claims it’s hidden, but I bet your kids could find it given enough prompting.
The Fluvarium isn’t exactly what I’d term “low cost.” A family of four (two adults/two kids) can visit for $20. Or you can pay $7 per adult, $4 per child (under 14), or nothing for kids up age 4! For me, with three kids and one adult, I save a buck by paying seperately.
However, with winter coming and sledding at Pippy Park centering as a major winter attraction for us, I’ve decided to pick up an annual family pass this year. At just $35 (less than the cost of two visits), it’s definitely worth it.
Visiting the Fluvarium is a great rainy/snowy day activity. With an annual pass it doesn’t matter if the kids get bored and want to leave ten minutes into it. And considering summer just ended I think this is the ideal time to pick one up, because it will be good through NEXT summer.
So what can you do at the Fluvarium?
- Well, feeding time (everyday at 4pm) is always a big attraction for my kids.
- Staff are always on hand to provide your kids with a little educational info.
- There are colouring sheets and hands-on activities for kids.
- And there’s Kids Club!
Kids Club, for 5-10 year olds, is FREE with admission. Kids sign up and get a passport at the front desk. After attending four different weekend programs your child will earn a special Freshwater Friends certificate. We did two of these last year and all three of my kids (then ages 4-8) loved them. The four-year-old did get a teensy bit bored, so I recommend sticking to the age guidelines. This is not a drop-off program; a parent or guardian must attend with the children (thus why the four-year-old joined in last year). But you might find that you enjoy the session just as much as the kids 🙂
Kids Club starts again this coming Saturday, September 07.
I’m really looking forward to picking up that annual pass and having all this available to the kids all year round.
And I thought what the heck! How about I pick up one for a loyal Kids Free NL reader as well? So that’s the plan.
